Born Thanksgiving 2002 - Died Valentines Day 2003
Scooter was the longest surviving megacolon affected baby from the Solo/Tree litter and made it nearly 3 months in this world with a barely functioning colon. He had 8 siblings who are fine and healthy and two siblings who died of megacolon. For a surprisingly long time, Scooter fared quite well with daily medication and other treatments as needed to help him regularly pass stool. He was tiny - about the size of a 4 to 5 week old healthy ritten even at the time of his passing - but was active and happy most of his too brief life. He was quite a little character - very lively and funny and friendly, despite some of the unpleasant things we did to him to keep him regular. He seemed to forgive the daily indignities of taking the yucky medicine that smelled like moldy prunes and the regular tushie baths (aka ratty bidet time) and took it all very much in stride. Scooter was a tiny man with the hugest of spirits and though his time was brief here, we are all very glad for the moments we had together.
