What is a "recycled" rat? It's a rat who needs a second chance at a good home. The rats featured below come from a variety of places, for a variety of reasons, usually because owners can no longer keep them. Some rats are special needs or rescued rats who need a therapeutic home where they can heal from the rigors of their former lives and find sanctuary, but most are perfectly healthy and friendly and just need to find a forever home to spend the rest of their days. Recycled or rescue ratties often make some of the best and most memorable pets. At ROUS Rattery, we generally don't rehome retired breeders as they are part of our family. However, sometimes we have rats that we have sold returned to us due to the owners being allergic, needing to move, or hitting some other bump in the road. Or, we have a rat who just seems to need a different type of environment than the one we can provide here - in a few cases, there are rats who just don't enjoy the company of other rats and end up living alone, so we try to place them with families who will be able to spend a lot of one-on-one time with them, giving them the affection and attention that they prefer to get from humans. We also will feature rats from NW rescue organizations and other breeders who need a second shot at a great home. Please bear in mind that all of the rats listed here are NOT to be bred and are for pets ONLY!!!
Two Seattle Rat Girls Need a Home ASAP!
L-
Rat • black self female |
M
- Rat • black female with white belly |
These two sisters are about 10 months old, from a person who bred for snake food, and their owner is currently located in the Seattle area. She has to move on September 10 and cannot take her animals with her. Both girls have been loved and well handled and, though they started out shy, they've warmed up to their human. Their owner cannot deliver the rats and so they would need to be picked up at her home. Please contact their owner Serenity directly at serenity@serenitysjournal.com
Homefinders of Vancouver, BC
Homefinders is a private, volunteer run rescue organization in the Vancouver, BC area who take in animals of all kinds for rehoming. They currently have put a moritorium on accepting new animals because they have a TON of rats (and other animals) of all ages seeking new homes. If you have an interest in adopting any of these ratties, please email Roberta or Hilary at hfcanada@shaw.com or call them at 604-585-2261. Even if you are not in BC, arrangements can be fairly easily made to get these rats at least as far as the Seattle area, possibly further. Their current list of rats needing homes, as well as their other animals, can be seen online at http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/homefinders.html
