Law & Order: Special Rodents Unit
Sweet, pony-faced Linda is a lovely, gentle girl with a sturdy build and very soft petable fur. The Chief is the son of our favorite boy here, Kalani, and is a big, silly fellow with the prettiest minky merled fur. Linda gave birth to a nice big litter of 12 on March 6, though she lost one of the babies shortly after birth and another the next day. There are six boys and four girls. Linda is a super mom and is rarely off her nest of chirping pinkies, even at dinnertime. We should have some dumbos and some velveteens. This litter will be named for characters in the popular TV series, Law & Order. Doink doink!
I got a panicked call from my friend Amy at Studmuffins Rattery on the evening of March 7. She was involved in a joint breeding with Brandon and his Breakfast Bunch Rattery and his doe Cozumel was having a very rough delivery and needed immediate vet care. She had given birth to four live pups who were kept warm on a heating pad until they could be brought here for Linda to foster. As soon as I handed her the babies, Linda got right to work cleaning them, stimulating them and tucking them beneath her for nursing. Initially we thought one of Cozumel's sons didn't make it but as the babies began to show fur color, it turned out that the baby who passed was one of Linda's.
The babies in their igloo, as much as Linda would allow me to pester with the camera, at 3 days old.
The whole gang at five days old, looking much darker and starting to show signs of fur.
Baby photos belowe were taken at about a week of age. Linda's babies are not dark enough yet for me to tell what their belly markings will be, though the foster babies are. I'm also not great at determining ear shape at a young age, so I could be wrong on a few. Tummies and ears will be correctly posted over the next week.

The Foster Babies
These babies were named after the fictional rats that come as sample data with
the Breeders' Assistant pedigree database most rat breeders use. Arripay
is the fictional rattery, but tBBR (The Breakfast Bunch) and STUD (Stud Muffins
Rattery) are the two very real ratteries who did the joint breeding of the
foster babies' parents, Pickles and Cozumel. Apparently it truly does take
