Blue

Hugo was an unplanned addition that I utterly fell in love with upon first sight at Spoiled Ratten Rattery in Kansas City, MO. He'd been retired from breeding after siring a very pretty litter for them and they were looking to place him in a new home. I knew I adored him the minute I laid eyes on that sweet, cubby face, but as soon as I saw his pedigree and that he was a son of the Northwest via a Ratty Rascals ancestor, I knew he had to return to his roots with me. Hugo seemed to enjoy his life in the land of the latte, living a bachelor's life in my office, rarely leaving his cushy hammock save for watching TV with me - CSI and Angel were our favorite shows and, yes, he did share popcorn. He was a most excellent couch rattie and was quite polite about not soiling or chewing on the upholstery. Sadly, in the last month of his life, he did battle with a tumor on the side of his face that was not operable and that was prone to abscessing. He bore all of his treatments with dignity and gentleness and was an excellent patient. Ironically, his last surgery got most of the tumor off, but the month of infection took too much of a toll on his body and he passed away hours after surgery. Happily, the type of tumor he had was not genetic, so he was able to be bred and has provided me with a perfect heir to the sofa, ROUS Grissom, named after a favorite CSI character in tribute to the show his father and I watched together.
