Grendel Parents Unknown Domestic Mom and Wild Dad Born: 4/2000 Grendel was an unplanned addition to our rattery, but one we are glad to have taken in. Apparently, a wild male rat had chewed through the cage lid of a pet female and, a little soft music, some candlelight and three weeks later a very unexpected litter of little agouti rats was born. They were brought into our local petstore at about three weeks old and, as luck would have it, I was there and couldn't resist taking one home. Though it was a struggle to domesticate Grendel at first, after the first six months or so, and a neutering, Gren has turned out to be a delightful pet and we are so happy that the old man is still with us. As you can see, he has a keen interest in Hinduism, particularly the god Ganesh who rides about on a big rat! |
