Esme gave birth to (we thought) eleven perfect pinkies on March 4. The delivery went quite smoothly and everyone is nursing happily. Then Miss Esme surprised me the next morning by hopping off the nest to reveal a bonus baby - twelve cuties were napping there instead of eleven! Esme is a good mom, but is definitely chafing at the bit to get out of the boring maternity cage - she really relishes her daily visits back to her regular cage of ladies. The babies are all named for breeds of cattle, thoughtfully provided to us by LeAnn at Ratty Rascals who knows her cows (and her rats!) Everyone is growing nicely and should have big open eyes in the next few days!
