Ani and Dom became parents on November 30 to 7 lovely babies - 2 boys and 5 girls, which effectively ends our streak of boy heavy litters. Ani's a terrific mum and enjoys playing the nesting game with me. I clean some soiled paper from their nest every day and then I hand her squares of paper through the door of the cage which she dutifully grabs from my hand with her mouth, places atop the babies and runs back and asks for another. Ani also grabs at my shirt every chance she gets, hoping to add it to the nest pile and she's gone after tresses of my hair only to be disappointed when I pull my head back and the strands slip through her paws. The babies are amazingly fast and energetic, just like mom. They must explore ever inch of hte cage and sniff at everything they encounter. Everyone in the litter was named for somone featured in a song title, which worked out nicely given that we have more girls than boys! I can only guess whether or not the babies will silver up like dad with his lovely essex markings, but these babies will only get cuter and more beautiful with age!
